2014, acrylic on canvas, 66 x 38 inches.
A young woman stands on the bank of a slow moving river. She pulls back her long emerald dress as if to curtsy, testing the waters with her toes and sending concentric circles of tiny waves across the otherwise glasslike surface. The trees are ablaze in full autumn foliage.
A friend of mine wrote the following description:
"How is it that your paintings
Speak to Me in Riddles?
Is this a summer scene?
or a set up for another Fall?
The trees are ablaze in summer glory.
or, do they signal another transition?
A transformation?
A Warning Sign?
On land, the trees exude fire, beauty, warmth and heat,
yet lack the cooling relief of brown branches and bark
and refreshing green leaves to counterbalance this intensity.
Even the flowing water cannot cool the fervor,
the passion,
the emotion.
The trees also cast their spell onto the water,
flooding the stream with an eerie reflection,
releasing the anguish from the past
allowing it to flow away
Wait.
These are not storm clouds overhead.
The sun is shining.
But the Source is not in the sky above
but emanating from the crown chakra.
A purple foothold announces
a yet unseen aura.
How much courage does it take
to re-enter these waters?
...as the ripples give way to a
swirling whirlpool?
The Year of the Snake has ended.
Only remnants remain.
Look up.
A New Life is dawning."
